How to Create a Shapefile from Selected Features

1. Select the desired layer by clicking it once to activate it.
2. Right click on the layer and choose Data, Export Data.
3. Through a dialog box choose Selected Features to export and click the radio button to Use the same Coordinate System as this layer's source data.
4. Browse to a location to save the exported data and name the data to be exported.
5. Click Save and OK.
6. Choose Yes to add the shapefile to the map.

Example

In the example provided, a shapefile is created from the previously restricted "fields within 50 miles of the Federal Waters Line” layer.
