How to Use the Query Wizard Tool

1. Definition Query

Definition Query - Used to restrict visible features.
Procedure

  1. From the GOM-Cubed pull-down menu select ESA Tools.
  2. Click on the Query Wizard.
  3. Click the radio button for Definition Query.
  4. From the Layer pull-down menu, select the Layer you would like to Query.
  5. From the Fields list, select the Field you would like to base the Query on.
  6. Double click on the Field you would like to base the Query on to enter it into the Query expression.
  7. Select an Operator.
  8. Select a Unique Value by double clicking on the value to enter it into the expression OR type in the value.
  9. Click Verify to ensure that your Query expression will be executed successfully.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Apply and Close.
  12. The Data Frame will be restricted to the Definition Query.
Example

In the example provided, the Data Frame is restricted to only show Wells with bottom hole TVD equal to or greater than 9,500 ft.

2. Select by Attributes

Select by Attributes - Used to select features.
Procedure
  1. From the GOM-Cubed pull-down menu select ESA Tools.
  2. Click on the Query Wizard.
  3. Click the radio button to Select by Attributes.
  4. From the Layer pull-down menu, select the Layer you would like to Query.
  5. From the Method pull-down menu, select the Method you would like to use for your Query.
  6. From the Fields list, select the Field you would like to base the Query on.
  7. Double click on the Field you would like to base the Query on to enter it to the Query expression.
  8. Select an Operator.
  9. Select a Unique Value by double clicking on the value to enter it into the expression OR type in the value.
  10. Click Verify to ensure that your Query expression will be executed successfully.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Apply and Close.
  13. The selected features will be highlighted in the Data Frame.
Example

In the example provided, Wells with bottom hole TVD equal to or greater than 13,000 ft are selected.
